The International Conference on Prehypertension and Cardio Metabolic Syndrome will focus on the public health impact, identification, etiology and pathogenesis of prehypertension as well as on intervention for preventing the adverse outcome of this prevalent condition.

During recent years we discuss whether borderline blood pressure levels require treatment. It is well accepted that in patients with borderline hypertension and specific co-morbidities treatment is justified. There is no dispute that if the patient is diabetic, has CHF, proteinuria etc, treatment is justified. However, it is not clear in other conditions like asymptomatic target organ damage.

ESH/ISH guidelines define borderline blood pressure values as high normal values, while the JNC VII defined a BP category of “Prehypertension” for systolic and diastolic BP: 120 to 139 mm Hg and 85 to 89 mm Hg, respectively. This new category is a continuum from prehypertension to hypertension and is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

The conference will honor Prof. Stevo Julius from USA, a leading hypertension expert and a pioneer in promoting realizing therapy on early hypertension.

New insights and guidelines will be presented in the pursuit of better understanding and therapy of early stages of high blood pressure.
