RNS Institute of Technology (RNSIT) was established in the year 2001 by RNS Trust, under the able stewardship of Dr.R.N.Shetty, a true visionary, an industrialist and entrepreneur known all over Karnataka as a great Philanthropist. The Murudeshwar Group of Companies headed by Dr. R.N.Shetty is a leading player in many industries viz., construction, manufacturing, hotel, automobile, power & IT services and education. The group has significant contribution to the field of education. A number of educational institutions are run by R.N.Shetty Trust and RNSIT is one among them. With a continuous desire to provide quality education to society, the trust has established RNSIT, an institution to nourish and produce the best of engineering and management talents. With the able leadership qualities of Dr. R.N.Shetty, RNSIT has achieved the distinction of being one among the top five engineering colleges in Karnataka in a short span of time.

About Physics Department

Physics is significant and influential because advances in its understanding have translated into new technologies. New ideas in physics often resonate with the other sciences, mathematics and philosophy. The department of Engineering Physics at RNSIT came into existence in the year 2001 during the inception of the institution. With its vision ‘To integrate Physics with cutting edge technology’ the department aims at providing a strong basement in scientific methods and first hand knowledge of applied physics. The department of Physics has highly qualified and dedicated staff, involved actively in research. The department has well equipped laboratory with sophisticated instruments. With these strengths, the department has achieved 100% results in the past years. The department also encourages students to update their knowledge by involving them in seminars, invited talks etc.

About the Conference

Phosphor materials are widely used in day to day life. Their best known applications are in TV screens, cathode ray tubes, scintillators, fluorescent lamps, full color displays, X-ray storage laser materials, dosimetry of ionizing radiation, etc. However, not single ideal phosphor is available yet. For many of these applications, we need to compromise on one or the other properties. Attempts are being made to improve characteristics of the phosphors. Many of the fundamental aspects of the behavior and properties of phosphor materials are yet to be understood well. The luminescence responses have extreme sensitivity to defects and their nature. Hence, there is strong need for understanding the fundamentals of preparation of efficient phosphors, creation of defects and understanding the physics behind the techniques. There is a huge scope for researchers in Engineering Institutions, Universities and Colleges for research in this field.

The conference includes Invited talks, plenary lectures and contributed papers (both oral and poster) on frontier areas of Phosphors and their applications, discussions on current luminescence research activities in India, latest instrumentation and techniques. The conference is expected to provide a platform for the researchers to exchange their ideas and views and to explore the possibility of initiating collaborative research programs. Participation of different groups from Industries, Universities and Research Institutions actively working in the field of luminescence are solicited.

Topics of the Conference:
1. Theory and applications of Phosphors
2. Synthesis and Characterization of Nanophosphors
3. Industrial phosphors-preparation and applications
4. Nanoluminescent materials-Physics and applications
5. Luminescence in Organic and Inorganic systems and LEDs
6. Radiation effects on Luminescent materials
7. Dosimetry – basics and theory
8. Amorphous Luminescent materials
9. Luminescence Instrumentation
10. New Luminescent materials and their novel applications
