India is a rich nation but remains poor. We are culturally, emotionally and
intellectually rich. When the rest of the world wore leaves, we were busy
inventing steel. When the rest of the world had not yet awakened to the
light of learning, we were studying science. We had invented the zero
much before the otherwise saw the dawn of civilization. But
unfortunately, India ranks 134th in the Human Development Index
preceded by Bhutan and Lao People's Democratic Republic and followed
by Solomon Island, Congo, and Cambodia. We need leaders who have
ability in shaping up the contours of “the Great Indian dream,†to
transform it into a “Vision’’ by presenting ideas of various “alternativesâ€.
We want to invent local solutions to local problems. Igniting the spirit of
entrepreneurship and patriotism serves a great deal in unleashing the great
potential of our country. As the new global order is emerging where India
is having a greater role to play she should not languish in basic indicators.
Entrepreneurs both in corporate and social sector should realize that they
are the real change agents of taking India on to the path of global equity.
Several entrepreneurs contributed immensely to the development of our
country with their vision and spirit of entrepreneurship.Wealth and a high majority of jobs are created by small businesses started
by entrepreneurially minded individuals, many of whom go on to create
big businesses. People exposed to entrepreneurship frequently express that
they have more opportunity to exercise creative freedom, higher self
esteem, and an overall greater sense of control over their own lives. As a
result, many experienced business people, political leaders, economists,
and educators believe that fostering a robust entrepreneurial culture will
maximize individual and collective economic and social success on a local,
national, and global scale.
The role of entrepreneurship and an entrepreneurial culture in economic
and social development has often been underestimated. Over the years,
however, it has become increasingly apparent that entrepreneurship does
indeed contribute to economic development.
In this context, we at the Department of Business Administration, Prasad
V. Potluri Siddhartha Institute of Technology thought of organizing the
seminar on “Building up a stronger and prosperous India with
managerial visions and spirit of entrepreneurship†to provide a common
platform for academicians, policy makers and Industry experts to discuss
associated issues and challenges.
