Minerals are important natural resources and essential for the modern civilization. These play an important role in world economy. India is endowed with reasonably good mineral resources. These meet the internal demand and also sustain on export front. Targeting for higher economic growth it also plans to increase investment in minerals based projects abroad. But mineral resources are non-renewable and in many cases high grade ores are depleting worldwide leaving behind low grade, finely disseminated and complex ores. Additionally, today mineral industry is confronted with a number of challenges such as increasing processing cost particularly due to high costs of energy and manpower and increasing pressure from environment. Further the global economic recession has adversely impacted the mineral industry and the prices of mineral commodities. For the sustainable developments there is need to address these challenges. R & D efforts are being put in worldwide towards developing innovative and eco-friendly technologies for exploitation of mineral deposits with improved efficiency and higher profitability. In order to deliberate on the above issues, an International Seminar on Mineral Processing Technology (MPT-2010) is being organized at National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur, India during 15-17 December, 2010.

MPT-2010 is being planned to be conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers (IIME), National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) and Tata Steel Ltd. as a part of Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of NML. Jamshedpur is located in the state of Jharkhand which is one of the richest states in mineral wealth in India and is considered to be the store- house of mineral resources. It is hoped that MPT-2010 will provide platform to mineral engineers, scientists, researchers, academicians and the plant operators for close interaction and exchange of ideas on different aspects of mineral processing and address the challenging problems today faced by the mineral industry. The participants will get an opportunity to closely interact with experts and industry leaders. The seminar will cover a wide range of topics as indicated in it’s scope
