The conference will focus on 3 topics:

Liposomes as carriers of drugs, antigens, proteins, and nucleic acids
Liposome uses in basic research
Sphingolipids - from chemistry, biology, and biophysics to potential drugs
These 3 topics are the main research interests and activities of Chezy Barenholz during the last 45 years.

The combination of these 3 related fields in one conference promises to be particularly exciting due to recent major advances in these fields.

The conference will include oral presentations, workshops, discussions, and posters focusing on the following topics:
Recent advances in use of liposomes as powerful tools in basic research including the topics of lipid biophysics, cationic liposomes, membrane structure and dynamics, the "raft concept", lipid-protein interaction, single-molecule (inside liposomes) research, liposomes and lipids as bio-lubricants, lipid peroxidation, phospholipase research, role of lipids in blood coagulation and in vision, nano-bio, liposomes and nanotechnology, and more.
Liposomes as delivery systems for low molecular weight drugs, proteins, antigens (liposome-based vaccines), and nucleic acids (especially therapeutics such as siRNA); lipid-based nano-medicines; active targeting, highlights of "competing" approaches (emulsions, polymers, micelles). Studies will focus on all stages of development from the bench to the clinic, including discussions on major obstacles to the development of liposomes and lipid-based therapeutics- and means to overcome these obstacles.
Update of Sphingolipids in signal transduction and cellular regulation; Sphingolipid metabolism, cell biology, biophysics, and therapeutic applications.
Speakers, students, and participants from academia and industry including many scientific institutions and companies worldwide, will take part in the conference, which will assure cross-fertilization of ideas and development of new ones.

Abstract submission will be done electronically via this web site. More details will be available soon. Deadline for abstract submission is March 15, 2011.
