OSHA Control of Hazardous Energy Compliance Directive (CPL) and Interpretations Review (OSHA, Health & Safet)

This course will examine the basics of implementing Federal OSHA Hazardous Energy Control (Lockout / Tagout) requirements. We will review the applicability of LOTO in general industry and survey priority topics of implementation. Key topics include review of OSHA formal letters of interpretation and how they affect employees performing energy control operations. The course will also specifically examine the current OSHA PSM compliance directive (CPL-02-00-147). Special attention throughout the course will be given to describing the requirements for the control of electrical energy (29 CFR 1910.333).
At the conclusion of the module, students should be able to:
- Identify the presence of hazardous energy.
- Understand in general terms the necessary steps to control hazardous energy.
- Gain familiarity with key LOTO implementation topics such as requirements for equipment specific energy control procedures, necessary tools and protective clothing, and allowable conditions for performing electrically energized work.
