In this context, traditional resource intensive natural-product programmes that are based on extract-library screening, bioassay-guided isolation, structure elucidation and subsequent production scaleup face a distinct competitive disadvantage when compared with approaches that utilize defined synthetic chemical libraries. However, emerging trends, coupled with unrealized expectations from current R&D strategies, are prompting a renewed interest in natural products as a source of chemical diversity and lead generation.
NCNPR-2011 Conference aims to bring together researchers and students, working in academic institutes, university research laboratories and industries, to a common platform, where they can interact, present their results and exchange information and understanding on recent developments in the field of natural product research. This conference will highlight the need for the study of natural products and their research to explore prospects for natural-product research in drug discovery.
