Payment By Results aims to raise quality, reduce variability in service provision and increase choice. But will it? How will it look in CAMHS? PbR involves allocating ‘patients’ to ‘clusters’ that predict their resource usage via care packages. Will this work in mental health? This talk will focus on what PbR is, the current state of play in CAMHS and a vision for the future. The results from piloting of needs assessment tools across 7 London trusts will be presented. Lively debate will be encouraged!

Dr Ann York is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist from South West London & St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, working in a Tier 3 CAMHS. She sits on QNCC and the CORC committee and is committed to designing excellent services for young people. With a colleague she developed the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA) as a system to improve quality and works nationally and internationally to support implementation.
