The Critical Perspectives on Accounting Journal is an established forum for scholars from around the globe who are interested in the broader social, economic and political issues raised by accounting technologies and corporate behaviour. The conference presents an opportunity for researchers and practitioners who are concerned that much mainstream theory and practice is ill-suited to the challenges of the modern environment.

Being grounded upon a critical perspective on accounting, the conference provides a central platform for accounting and finance researchers with progressive social science interests and welcomes researchers from other disciplines such as political economy, sociology, human geography, anthropology, and philosophy who are concerned that accounting practices aligned to contemporary power structures are inextricably connected with the many allocative, distributive, social, and ecological problems of our era.

The major themes of the conference are
- critical accounting
- accounting theory
- management accounting
- accounting and labour processes
- audit processes
