This masterclass will provide Freedom of Information practitioners with practical advice and resources to help their organisation respond to information requests within statutory requirements. It will consider policy and procedure, including the requirement to advise and assist, costs and charging regimes, what information is held, vexatious requests, and handling complaints. The interaction with the Data Protection Act and the Environmental Information Regulations will be considered. Practitioners will look at exemptions in detail, as well as applying the Public Interest Test. Delegates will assess recent decisions by the Information Commissionerâ€™s Office and Information Tribunal, and consider the implications arising from these decisions on their current practices. Delegates will consider trends in requests and learn how other local authorities are dealing with these issues, share good practice and build a network of contacts in this area of work.
