Countless books, articles and films cover the infamous Whitechapel murders in the East End of London in 1888. The bulk of the work, however, has centered on the identity (or identities) of Jack the Ripper, arguing for particular candidates as the most plausible killers and often seeking to discredit the contenders espoused by others. This conference will instead explore the social, economic, psychological and philosophical aspects of the famous Ripper murders.
