Description
Organizing International Soil Science Congresses is a long established
custom of the SSST, the first of which was held in 1998 in zmir. The 2nd
congress was held in Konya in 2000, which dealt with desertification. The 3rd
congress was organized by Onsekiz Mart University in Çanakkale, 2002. The 4th
congress was held in Erzurum in 2004, organized by the Atatürk University, the
5th congress was held in 2006 in Sanlıurfa organized by the Harran University
and the 6th congress was organized by the Adnan Menderes University in Aydın,
2008. The 7th and the latest International Soil Science Congress was organized
by Ondokuz Mayıs University in Samsun in 2010.
The Soil Science Society of Turkey and Ege University, Faculty of
Agriculture, Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition are glad to invite the
former ICLD scientific community to this important international event which will
combine the science of land degradation and desertification with traditional soil
science research, including various topics of interest such as soil genesis,
classification, soil physics, chemistry, biology/microbiology and mineralogy, as
well as modern techniques of modeling or digital soil mapping.
This conference follows the good tradition created by the five previous
International Conferences on Land Degradation (ICLD) was organized by the
Çukurova University, Adana, Turkey in 1996, the next was organized by the Thai
Department of Land Development, Khon Kaen, Thailand in 1999, the next was
organized by Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa) in
cooperation with the Secretariat for Sustainable Development of the Ministry of
Environment and the Institute of Agronomy in Campinas, Sao Paolo, Brazil in
2001, the next was held in Cartagena, Spain 2004, organized by the Technical
University of Cartagena-Murcia and the latest was organized by the CIHEAM
Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari, Bari, Italy 2008. On average, each of
the previous conferences was attended by more than 200 people from various
countries around the world.
Main topics of the congress
Land degradation, remediation and reclamation
Policies for soil health management in agriculture
Soil genesis and classification
Geo-spatial/Remote Sensing technologies for soil management
Soil and water conservation
Carbon sequestration and management
Soil and water pollution
Wetland soils and climate change
Nutrient management for soil sustainability, ood security and human health
