Biobanking increasingly is seen as an essential tool in translating biomedical research into real improvements in healthcare. Biobanks are found in a variety of organizations. They can exist inside academic medical institutions as well as pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, or they can operate as independent organizations delivering biological materials to researchers. Relied on heavily in furthering genomic research, biobanks must meet the needs of biomedical researchers without violating donorâ€™s rights. Biobanking 2011 will address important points to consider and practical concerns in the field, including scientific and commercial relevance, regulatory & ethical developments, implementation & expansions, sample integrity and novel use of data.
