Full day In-person Seminar: Japan Nuclear Crisis Exposes Hidden Safety Risks (Sox Compliance)
Venue: Online Event
|Event Date/Time: Jul 25, 2011||End Date/Time: Jul 25, 2011|
On March 11, 2011, Japan experienced the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in the country. The tsunami that followed has caused incredible destruction that few people could have imagined. The catastrophic natural disasters spawned a man-made nuclear crisis at the Fukushima power plant that threatens a doomsday scenario comparable only to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986.
Consequently, the future of nuclear power hangs in the balance as world leaders weigh the costs and benefits of nuclear energy. The stakes are high as the demand for energy swells and the supply of adequate resources to fuel the world’s growing needs continues to dwindle. The devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the deadliest mining disaster since 1970 in West Virginia are evidence that alternatives to nuclear power are fraught with dangers as well. So given the safety risks, how can the energy sector continue to meet growing energy demands while reducing the chances of a re-occurrence of similar man-made catastrophes in the future?
The trainer will examine recent man-made catastrophes and evaluate the human factor risks that contributed the tragedies. Preventative strategies will be introduced that help mitigate the hidden safety risks inherent in human judgment.
