Current challenges in suspect and witness interviewing to be debated by leading experts at Investigative Interviewing conference.

The Investigator is partnering with the University of Derby to host an Investigative Interviewing conference that will debate many of the current challenges associated with this exciting area of policing.

This unique event will also celebrate the launch of the University of Derby’s Msc in Criminal Investigation course and MSc in Cybercrime and E-Investigation, which start in September.

Course leaders Dave Walsh and Jo Drummond-Child will be opening the conference and speaking about these courses.

• NPIA lead on Suspect Interviews, Gary Shaw, MBE ‘Suspect interview structure – best practice; Getting underneath a suspect’s account by probing for detail.’
• NPIA lead on Witness Interviews, Dr Kevin Smith – ‘update on current developments, legislation and challenges in witness interviewing.’
• NPIA lead Behavioural Investigative Advisor Lee Rainbow – ‘new guidance on using BIAs in major crime interviews.’
• ACPO- approved interview advisor DS Ronnie Gibson, PSNI ‘No comment interviews.’
• ACPO-approved interview advisor DS Andy Smith, Durham Constabulary ‘Pre-interview briefings with legal advisors.’
• Professor Ray Bull, a leading interviewing authority from the University of Leicester will be presenting his research on when in interviews to reveal information to suspects
• Graham Dickinson, Damovo ‘Current developments in digital interviewing technology.’
