The 2011 conference (NE2011) is of particular importance to the nursing profession as advanced practice nursing roles continue to evolve in our health care settings. With the ongoing integration of these specialized nurses, we are experiencing changes that are transforming the care that is being delivered to individuals and their families. However, it has been noted that many challenges such as overlapping responsibilities, the necessity of working with multiple partners within the interprofessional team, issues of identity and educational preparation, as well as the systemic impact of these roles, have created interest on the part of many, and raised concerns for others.

Nurse practitioners in neonatology, cardiac care and primary care will be participating. Also included are clinical nurse specialists, hospital-based educators and pivot nurses. They will discuss their roles in various settings and how their interventions can impact on the care of patients and their families.

Who should attend?
Nursing Explorations is a “must attend” for nurse managers, front-line nurses, nurse administrators, clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, educators, nursing students, family physicians, and government representatives.

We have included presentations in both French and English with simultaneous translation. Furthermore, we have requested CME study credits from McGill University, Centre for Continuing Health Professional Education office which sponsors continuing medical education for physicians.
