What causes us to make a bad choice?

Recently, students taking an Ethics class examination were caught cheating! This shows that we can KNOW what ethics is, and even the effects of making bad choices, but that is often overwhelmed by the pressures on us to be perfect, to excel, to look good to those above us – bosses, shareholders, friends, and family.

Right vs. wrong – easy, really – just ask yourself a series of questions:
• Is it legal?
• Will it hurt anyone – my company, my department, my co-workers….me?
• Does it go against my own values?

In the broadest sense, ethics is governed by the golden rule – do unto others as you’d have them do unto you. Sounds good when you say it fast, but sometimes hard to live by. We do our best.
