The 41st ISTE Annual National Convention, 2011 of ISTE is being organized by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College (BBSBEC), Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, www.bbsbec.ac.in in collaboration with Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar, Punjab, www.ptu.ac.in. The venue of the convention is BBSBEC during the period 16th-18th December 2011.
This convention will bring Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities, prominent personalities, eminent academicians, Professionals, R&D persons and technical educators across the country. The convention will provide a common platform for promoting and unfolding new dimensions in the field of technical education. This programme would include presentations, discussions of technical papers, award of honorary fellowships and prizes and awards to distinguished statesmen and prominent institutions of technical education.

About the Host Institution

BBSBEC, Fatehgarh Sahib, is a centre of erudition where the young talent is nurtured in different fields of Engineering and Management. Named after the great martyr and warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, who lay to rest the tyrant rule of Mughals, the college was established in the year 1993 under the aegis of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Educational Trust. In a short span of time, BBSBEC has become a name synonymous with excellence in academics, research, sports and cultural activities. BBSBEC is affiliated to PTU and is approved by AICTE. Presently, the college is running 7 undergraduate and 6 postgraduate programmes. The annual intake of the students in all programmes exceeds 1000. The college is accredited by NBA and Institution of Engineers (India). Spread over 90 acres of lush campus, BBSBEC is accessible by air, rail and road and is well connected to important places in Punjab like Chandigarh, Patiala, Ludhiana and Ambala.
The college is well positioned to create an ambience of education and research as it has an amalgam of faculty having Ph.D., those pursuing PhD as well as Post Graduate faculty. The institute offers the students a rich educational experience that marries intellectual rigor and inter-disciplinary breadth in an intimate, student-centered and research oriented environment. The goal is to position the engineering graduates as problem solvers, project leaders, communicators, and ethical citizens of a global community.
As an elite college affiliated to its parent university, the college asserts its commitment towards imparting quality education and better employability of its graduates. Notably, the college has been recipient of prestigious National Award, ‘Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan Award’ for Engineering Colleges having ‘Overall Best Performance’ conferred by Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) in the past.
Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar was established in 1997 with a motive to promote Technical, Management, and Pharmaceutical Education in the Punjab State. The University has a critical focus in the area of professional skill oriented technologies to the masses and the mandate to set up centres of excellence in emerging technologies. It has taken new initiatives in technical education to provide latest trends in technology and give opportunity to students and faculty to interact with the technology leaders in the country. PTU has also won two e-INDIA 2010 Awards given by the Department of Information Technology, Government of India. The awards acknowledge and felicitate unique and innovative initiatives in the use of information and communication technology (ICT) for development in diverse domains — e-Governance, digital learning, e-health and e-agriculture.

The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) is the largest National, professional, non-profit society established in 1968 with a view to advance the cause of technical education. The society contributes in the development of top quality professional engineers needed by the industry and other organizations. Being the only National organization of educators in the field of Engineering and Technology, ISTE effectively contributes in various missions of the Union Government. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, CTE/DST/MIT/State Government are well associated with the ISTE for programmes relating to technical education.

• MoU with the IGNOU for setting up ISTE-IGNOU Programme Centre (UPC) in the institutions for enhancing the knowledge, skills, attitude and awareness amongst the students in the field of engineering and technology, management and life skill development
• Collaboration with American Society for Engineering Education, International Federation for Engineering Education Societies (IFEES), Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC), USA.
• Conducting entrepreneurship awareness camps for young teachers and students under the sponsorship of NSTEDB, DST.

Guidelines for Paper Submission
Full text of paper, not exceeding 3000 words and an abstract not exceeding 250 words typed in single column with single line spacing (font: Calibri with font size 12) MS-Word format, should be sent both in print and soft copy to the organizing secretary through registered post only.

The soft copy of the paper is to be submitted to the manuscript handling center on website http://www.iste.bbsbec.ac.in or to be sent to e-mail: iste@bbsbec.ac.in. It is necessary that all selected papers are presented by the respective authors at the Annual National Convention. Hence, unless at least one of the author’s registration is confirmed on or before 18th November 2011, abstracts of their papers will be considered for publication in the proceedings. Authors will be notified individually for either oral or poster presentation.
