“End of life care for people with dementia is a key part of delivering good quality dementia care” (Professor Alistair Burns, National Clinical Director for Dementia). Early discussion and planning for the end of life is a vital part of helping people live and die as well as possible with dementia. This national event, organised in partnership between some of the leading organisations in dementia and end of life care, will focus on practical ways in which good communication and planning can improve quality of care for people with dementia in a cost effective way. It will also highlight ways in which social mobilisation and campaigning can deliver national and local change.
Highlights include: Live drama and video exploring the importance of good communication, address by National Clinical Director for Dementia Professor Alistair Burns and a free copy of NCPC’s Difficult Conversations for Dementia for each delegate.

This conference will:

- Use video and drama to explore the impact of early discussion and planning, drawing heavily on the personal experiences of people affected by dementia
- Feature keynote sessions on the national policy context for dementia and end of life care, with leading figures from the Department of Health
- Explore and share innovative good practice examples in dementia, palliative & end of life care from around the country
- Highlight the power of partnership working to raise public awareness and deliver change
- Provide a valuable forum for people working in dementia care and end of life care
