Additional Information

The threat posed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) is the greatest threat facing American and NATO Forces today. Reports have shown that between 70-80% of troop casualties are caused by IEDs and that 2011 has been the deadliest year for US troops in Afghanistan since the war began. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is spearheading an effort to reverse this trend and remove the insurgencies most effective weapon. Now more than ever, there is an urgent need to develop ways to adapt developing technology and tactics so that troops and their counterparts are safe to locate and destroy IEDs before they can cause any harm. Today, the Warfighter is engaged in tracking many different threats. The ability to correctly identify, remove, and destroy IEDs has become the most important capability for a ground force to have in order to save lives. As the Joint IED Defeat Organization aptly puts it, we must Attack the Network, Defeat the Device and Train the Force! IDGA’s flagship Counter IED Summit in Washington, DC will deliver a comprehensive overview of the requirements, emerging policies, programs, and methods involved in defeating and removing the IED threat as well as the new IED challenges and developments being seen in the field, Warfighter perspective on Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), and the latest in detection tactics and technology
