The 5 commitments include:
1. Commitment to self
â€¢ Self -Assessment begins with you understanding your strengths as an educator and analyzing what you do well.
â€¢ Through understanding your strengths you will be able to capitalize on a greater confidence of how to reach students depth and complexity that will sustain learning.
â€¢ Your break out session will provide you the opportunity to complete a
self â€“assessment and be analyzed by our facilitator who specializes in this area.
2. Commitment to relationships
â€¢ To effectively teach students from at â€“risk backgrounds you must understand where they come from.
â€¢ Creating relationships that are based on trust and understanding of each studentâ€™s difference will create an environment in you school community that inspires students to want to learn.
3. Commitment to culture
â€¢ In order to achieve excellence school communities need to establish a common culture that captures the interest of the community.
â€¢ In your break out session you will be able to work with your colleagues to assess the current culture of your school and create an action plan that will reestablish a common core value system that can be used immediately to shift the beliefs and views of your students and families.

â€¢ How do you view your responsibility with regards to openly sharing your ideas and practices with your colleagues and your community?
â€¢ Do you know how to access the resources within your community to support your students in all aspects of their lives?
â€¢ Have you met with community leaders and provided opportunities to them to become a part of your community to move students forward?
â€¢ This workshop will provide you the skills and tools to support you in creating a plan to tap into the rich and culturally diverse community leaders to begin creating a goal towards educating the whole child.
These speakers bring a wealth of experience from the classroom level to the district level. We encourage you to bring a team from your school/district and we look forward to your registration. Also, please join other universities and bring your pre-service teachers. This conference will accommodate the first 300 registrations. We look forward to seeing you!
