India's mobile revolution has opened up unforeseen possibilities for good governance and enhancing the reach of National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). The government of India is alert to the unfolding phenomenon. The Department of Information Technology, Government of India has already formulated Mobile Governance Policy that is to be notified soon. The work to set up National Mobile Services Delivery Gateway (MSDG) has already started and the efforts to identify key applications on mobile governance are already initiated.

This provides an unprecedented opportunity for Telecom Operators, VAS Providers, system integrators and multilateral development agencies to partner with government and help create innovative mobile based solutions for delivery of public services. However, in order to leverage the opportunity and help India become a leader in Mobile applications domain, there is a lot that needs to be done yet. How to transform the policy initiative to implementation at the grassroots level, what mobile apps do we need, what are the international best practices, what is in it for the commercial players, what PPP models will be suitable, how can the mobile governance be made viable?

The issues will be deliberated during e-GovWorld 2012 and will also be addressed in the special January issue of Governance Now Magazine that is to be released during the conference. e-Gov World 2012 is a unique program aimed at Collaborating Experience with Expertise. It is an initiative to promote cooperation among the mobile government stakeholders in India and create awareness about global best practices in mobile applications for Public services and providing recognition to the innovative mobile governance initiatives in India.
