The conference will focus on innovations for providing sustainable, affordable surgery, globally. While the need is clearly greatest in resource poor countries and in rural areas, “disruptive” innovations will ultimately reduce the cost of surgery for everybody, everywhere. As a central component of public health, surgery must be considered from the business, engineering, medical, legal, and economic and policy points of view. Surgeons, nurses, and doctors of other specialties as well as the wider community must look to ways of making surgery affordable for the many conditions that benefit from interventions.

The diverse international faculty draws from ministries of health, the International Finance Corporation, entrepreneurs, surgeons, bioengineers, specialists in public health, anthropologists and educators and surgeons.

The course will be of interest to members of the surgical community, students, and the broader academic, policy, business, engineering and general communities.

CME credit available.
