This conference is focused on the market and policy development aspects of
the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme. The main theme of the AAL
SUMMIT 2012 conference is “New Avenues to fill the gap between health
and Welfare Demands and Effective ICT Solutions”. The main objective of
this conference is to address the mismatches between Policy and Technology
in order to enable the deployment of AAL solutions at scale.
The aim is to provide a detailed identification of the different market barriers that
avoid AAL solutions to be deployed and used by the majority of citizens having
need of them. It is necessary for the AAL market to succeed new procedures
and ways to overcome these market barriers that are found and that the AAL
products and solutions are impelled so that they are commercially available as
mainstream products are. In relation to this, new policies should be designed so
that these market barriers are removed. Finally, an analysis of the real needs of
potential buyers and end-users will contribute to avoid mismatches between
offer and demand.
Thus, innovation should cover not only technology, but also the organizational
requisites to achieve the adequate scale in sellers and prescriptors, within a
context of social changes directed towards the empowerment of citizens. This
new scenario would integrate the home as a care centre, changing conventional
social health care model, and allowing the familiarity of elder people with the
new AAL technologies.
The AAL SUMMIT 2012 conference will bring together all the stakeholders
around this area, such as investors, entrepreneurs, industry, innovators, healthcare
providers, health-care professionals, associations, social workers, formal
and informal caregivers, elderly associations, medical industry, end-users (older
adults and other citizens), researchers and policy makers. This conference will provide them with a unique forum to exchange best practices and knowledge
and to discuss the way to develop further and faster the emerging market of
products and services for an active and healthy ageing.
The AAL SUMMIT 2012 conference will provide a complete programme which
incorporates a wide range of policy makers, industrial, business, and technical
related keynote speakers, oral and poster presentations along with high level
roundtables. The long term vision of independent and active aging, technology
and usability are complemented explicitly by a third dimension: the market
entrance and investments in AAL, emphasizing the social innovation. To
discuss this on as concrete basis as possible, the investment activities will have
a central position at the AAL Summit 2012, as an integral part of the plenary
sessions, including closed private and public investors-entrepreneurs
matchmakings. In addition, a strong parallel track on Financing, Venture Capital
and Investors is completing these economic views.
