Human services as a profession is in a time of great momentum – from the numerous human services programs springing up on campuses across the country, to the creation of the Human Services – Board Certified Practitioner credential, to the greater awareness of human services as a unique and vital addition to the helping professions.

The provision of human services is in great need due to continued economic disparity, ever-tightening restrictions on who “deserves” assistance, and the redirection of funding from traditional sources. Human Services was initiated during challenging times to address social injustice, discrimination, and the marginalization of certain members of our society. Although our mission has not changed, conditions necessitate an innovative approach to ongoing needs and a celebration of what works to “transform individuals and communities”.
