Protecting personal information in law firms
|Event Date/Time: May 31, 2012||End Date/Time: May 31, 2012|
Why is this important? People rate the protection of their personal information as a high priority. We are all becoming more aware of how our personal information is collected and how widely it is distributed and used. As well as the increase in awareness levels, we are starting to see significant fines being imposed on organisations that make serious mistakes in the way in which they handle personal information. The Regulator has also frequently imposed fines on law firms for non-registration under the Act.
To add to the mix, proposals are coming from Europe for a change in the legislation which will place additional compliance obligations on businesses.
On the plus side, it is possible to turn compliance to your advantage. Openness and transparency can pay dividends in generating trust between your firm, your employees and your clients. Playing by the rules can help generate a flexible and valuable set of data that your firm can use to further its business objectives.
