Newly evolving requirements require food handling supply chain members to share liabilities for maintaining food temperature controls. It is estimated that between 30 and 50% of all food produced is never eaten. A good deal of the loss results from lack of proper storage and transportation controls.

This session is designed for any food or pharmaceutical industry supply chain players who rely on temperature controls to deliver quality product. Air Cargo, trucking, rail and shippers are key players in the transportation of temperature controlled goods and can benefit financially from offering value-added sensor technology to their service packages. The session will cover strategies to provide real-time cold chain temperature tracking and traceability. The goal is to help the supply chain avoid liability and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and to describe some of today's technology that is capable of providing a systematic real-time anytime/anywhere approach to knowing the temperature of shipped goods.

Areas Covered:

- Food Safety Modernization Act (food handling, transportation - import, local and export)
- Temperature tracking sensors that communicate via radio frequency identification (RFID)
- Trucking, air freight, distributor liability
- Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking to provide the "ANYWHERE" data
- Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) to communicate ANYTIME
- Real-Time cold chain traceability
