Improvised explosive devices continue to be the single largest cause of US and Coalition casualties. Over 20% more explosive devices have been implanted over the past year and Military analysts are expecting this trend to continue through the spring and summer of 2012.

Improvised Explosive Devices remain the largest threat to our troops as we expand into areas that previously served as insurgent sanctuaries.

- General David Petraeus, Past Commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan

Even though IEDs have continued to increase, so has the success rate of detecting and defeating these devices.
