Obesity 2012 assembles some of the most highly respected and influential professionals in the field of obesity and the related fields of diabetes, endocrinology and cardiology to discuss the current issues and challenges involved in managing the national and international obesity crisis.

Obesity has reached global epidemic proportions. Latest figures reveal that at least one billion adults are significantly overweight and 2.6 million people die each year as a direct result of obesity and complications caused by obesity. Alongside the US, the UK has the highest obesity levels in the world. Researchers predict that if the current trend continues, up to 48% of men and 43% of women in the UK could be obese by 2030, adding an additional £1.9-2 billion per year in medical costs for obesity-related diseases. Last month nearly every doctor in the UK united in an unprecedented campaign to tackle rising levels of obesity.

Speakers at Obesity 2012 include: Professor David Haslam, Professor Philip James, Dr Matthew Capehorn, Dr Paul Sacher, Dr Arthur Stewart, Dr Harry Rutter, Dr Russ Jago, Dr Daghni Rajasingam, Professor Paul Gately, Dr Alison Avenell, Professor Tony Leeds, Professor Stephen Bloom, Dr Clare Grace, Professor Iain Broom, Dr Shahrad Taheri, Dr Alexander Miras, Dr Thomas Barber and Dr Andrew Renehan.

This essential meeting will discuss the key issues of the current obesity epidemic and examine hot topics in the management, prevention and the treatment of obesity and related chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and various cancers.
