20th anniversary conference
"pearls of the coniferous forest"
October 30 – NovEMBER 2 2012
The International, three-day conference seeks local and regional solutions to reconcile between various human activities and nature. We will work in six sessions: Forests, Renewable energy, Nature tourism, Green mining, Border area nature and Networks & collaboration. Border area issues will be exemplified through the border regions in general and the Green Belt of Fennoscandia, which consists of the bordering areas of Finland, Russia, and Norway.
The six themes of this congress will be explored through lectures and intensive workshops in reference to sustainable development, multi-disciplinary research and various collaborative actions and networks especially on regional level. Biosphere Reserves will be one example of regional, collaborative approaches.
Summary of the workshops on how various functions can be reconciled will take place in a plenary including all theme groups. On the final day of the conference, through excursions, we will get acquainted on how various human activities and nature co-exist along the Finnish – Russian border which lies within the North Karelia Biosphere Reserve.
The language of the conference will be English! For detailed information see Conference programme.
Conference workshops are planned to serve development organizations, administrative officials, scientists, border area officials, representatives of biosphere reserves, students, researchers and regular citizens.
The conference will also mark North Karelia Biosphere Reserve's 20th anniversary.
With the great number of professionals and international experts from various backgrounds and sustainable development sectors, this will be a one of a kind conference event you don’t want to miss!
