Sub Junior National Hockey begins

The 21st Sub Junior National U14 Girls Hockey Championship begain here today with the formal inauguration by Member of Parliament, Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal at Bassi Pathana in District Fatehgarh Saheb.
Twenty three teams from various parts of the country are participating in the Championship which will culminate on 28th May 2012 with the finals and prize distribution function.
Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur complimented the Pepsu Women Hockey Association, District Women Hockey Association and the Mehar Baba Charitable Trust for hosting the event in the most professional way and bringing together young girls from all over the country, which would set an example for the girls in Fatehgarh Saheb to come forward, step out and compete in every sphere of life.
Member of Parliament Smt Paramjit Kaur Gulshan also joined on this occasion, along with the local MLA Justice (retd) Nirmal Singh, Deputy Commissioner Yashvir Mahajan, former chief secretary Punjab, Mr. A.S. Chatha, who is President of MBCT, Mr. P.P. Singh, Member, Indian Hockey Federation, and Hony. Secretary, Pepsu Women Hockey Association, Sukhwinder Kaur, President, Pepsu Women Hockey Association, and Mr. Amritpal Singh Tiwana, President, District Women Hockey Association, Fatehgarh Saheb.
Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Member of Parliament, also released the CD of the theme song on this occasion with the championship theme of â€œHum Betiyaan Hui to Kya Hua, Ma Baap ki shaan hain, desh kaa bhi maan hainâ€ Explaining the concept behind adopting the â€˜Hamari Betiâ€™ as the theme for the Championship, Prof. H.S. Mejie, chairman of Mehar Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT) which also runs a hockey nursery for 5 to 10 years of age children in Bassi Pathana, said that female foeticide is an extensive problem in Fatehgarh District and MBCT had been working specifically in this area to empower women, provide them education and vocational training.
