BEGINNING WITH R:COMPARING GROUPS
HALF-DAY PARALLEL WORKSHOP 10AM TO 12-45AM
FRIDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2012, UNIVERSITY OF YORK, UK

Keywords: R data structures; plotting; t-tests; nonparametrics; one-way ANOVA

This half-day course is aimed at complete beginners to R. It introduces basic concepts and structures and uses these to perform some simple plotting and statistical tests comparing groups.
A workbook and memory stick of examples are provided together with refreshments.
Lunch is also included if attending both a morning AND afternoon workshop or tutorial session otherwise is available on request.

AN INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICAL MODELING IN R
HALF-DAY PARALLEL WORKSHOP 10AM TO 12-45AM
FRIDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2012, UNIVERSITY OF YORK, UK

Keywords: Analysis of (co)variance; contrasts; bootstrapping; meta-analysis

This half-day course assumes a basic knowledge of R concepts and structures and illustrates how to use R in a range of commonly used statistical analyses including analysis of variance and analysis of covariance and finishes by looking at more advanced analyses such as bootstrapping and meta-analysis.
A workbook and memory stick of examples are provided together with refreshments.
Lunch is also included if attending both a morning AND afternoon workshop or tutorial session otherwise is available on request.

CHI-SQUARE TESTS AND LOGISTIC REGRESSIONS IN SPSS
HALF-DAY PARALLEL WORKSHOP 1-50PM TO 4-30PM
FRIDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2012, UNIVERSITY OF YORK, UK

Keywords: Tabular data; group outcome; ordinality between groups; logistic regression

This half-day course provides a gentle introduction to the analysis of contingency tables and chi-square in SPSS, leading onto logistic regression to compare a binary outcome between groups taking into account other variables. Finally, extension to ordinal logistic regression. Examples from paediatrics and the social sciences will be used to contextualise the concepts. A workbook and memory stick of examples are provided together with refreshments. Lunch is also included if attending both a morning AND afternoon workshop or tutorial session otherwise is available on request.

SURVIVAL ANALYSIS WITH HEALTHCARE APPLICATIONS USING SPSS
HALF-DAY PARALLEL WORKSHOP 1-50PM TO 4-30PM
FRIDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2012, UNIVERSITY OF YORK, UK

Keywords: Life tables; events over time; risk; regression models

This half-day course provides a gentle introduction to survival analysis (also known as the analysis of time-to-event data) in SPSS. Health and medical examples will be used to contextualise the concepts. A workbook and memory stick of examples are provided together with refreshments.
Lunch is also included if attending both a morning AND afternoon workshop or tutorial session otherwise is available on request.

HEALTH APPLICATIONS IN SPSS
TUTORIAL SESSION 10AM TO 12-35PM
FRIDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2012, UNIVERSITY OF YORK, UK

FIRST STEPS IN DATA ANALYSIS USING R
TUTORIAL SESSION 1-50PM TO 4-10PM
FRIDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2012, UNIVERSITY OF YORK, UK

These one-day tutorial sessions, along with four half-day workshops, form part of a one-day training day organised by users of SPSS and R software for fellow users. The users group has experience in organising such events covering over 25 years and feature teachers who are experienced in communicating statistics and aspects of computing to non-statisticians.
One tutorial session will be teaching how to apply SPSS to health data and the other will cover commonly used applications of R including data entry, publication quality plotting, regression and repeated measures ANOVA building on the concepts introduced in the morning R courses. Each session will feature four tutorials. Delegates may choose to attend a single morning tutorial session or workshop and/or a single afternoon tutorial or workshop.
Come along to learn more about how to choose and implement statistical routines in both SPSS and R using example data, how to interpret and understand the output, see software demonstrations, share experiences with other users and plan for future meetings. Coffee breaks are included. Lunch is also included if attending both a morning AND afternoon event.
