With few days to go for our 5th Global Skills Summit (GSS), the excitement is really building up. This year’s GSS theme – Learner’s First! is already stirring a debate within the who’s who of the industry. We have received overwhelming interest from the partners to be part of this celebration of skills development.
The Learner is the fulcrum of success of the mammoth skills mission. Picture this:
-The demand side needs the Learner who is job ready and employable.
-The supply side needs a learner who is proactive and ready for vocational training.
-The policy as reviewed above is learner centric and aimed at equitable skills development
-The learner himself needs skills whether he aspires for a white collared job or is looking at alternate career sources
-Internationally, as the world’s second largest labour market, our skilled labourers meet the global manpower demand. Even they are learners, but often learners of chance and not choice.
Hence, we dedicate FICCI’s 5th Global Skills Summit to the most important partner in making the skills history – the learner - by reversing the debate and looking at the skills agenda from his perspective – the learner first perspective.
FICCI’s Global Skills Summit (referred to as GSS) will compel the participants to look at the vocational training and skill building initiatives from a learner’s lens. GSS 2012 therefore comes with the following objectives:
a)Learner First – Voice the opinion, expectations and understanding of the learners – school, graduate, ITI, vocational training etc
b)Industry perspective on “ hiring skilled manpower†– expectations, challenges, investment
c)Debate the existing government programs and how they are addressing the issues of outreach, equity and expansion
d)Invite views and opinions of International experts on, “how learner focused skills strategies shape their skills building initiatives?â€
e)For the first time launch a dialogue on similarity of issues pertaining to human development in the SAARC region at global skills summit
