‘Knowledge, Technology, Innovation and development' are words heard in the many diverging commentaries and discussions. They also express in a perfect way the ambivalence in relation to the impact of knowledge, creativity and technology and innovation in our everyday life which is also one of the most important studies in the philosophy, development and roles and impact of knowledge and technology in the 21st Century. Organizations and societies are becoming knowledge and technology based - that is, the utilization of state-of-the-art knowledge and technology is now the critical ingredient for survival. When we talk and discuss about 'Sustainable Development Dividend', developing better information and communication systems is only part of this challenge. It is also necessary to create collaborative cultures, supportive infrastructure and sensitive measurement system to facilitate the effective and efficient acquisition and deployment of new knowledge and innovation. This is what the conference aims to achieve.
In innovation and technology management, creativity, learning and innovation are the critical drivers for achieving excellence. Knowledge and technology are information put to productive use. And is a product of activity, not just a simple process of acquisition. The introduction of technological innovations in any work setting alone does not affect substantial change. It is not the technology, which changes thing; it is the way in which we use the technology that has the potential to change our learning. This International Conference will try to address these broad issue of promoting knowledge, technology and innovation in sustainable development as a concept that has two equally important objectives. The first, is about how to produce a development or humanitarian "dividend' from the enormous investments made in knowledge, technology and innovation? Innovation, invention and improvisation are also conducted in communities by average people everywhere. We hope that our dialogue and discussions will try to identify ways in which this creativity, effort and systematic persistence, can also produce outcomes that are of value for communities that are deprived of resources and opportunities - “sustainable development dividendsâ€. The second objectives, is about how to encourage and build innovation in developing countries and communities. People are creative and ingenious everywhere, but in most of the developing country, institutions suffer from inadequate resources and unreliable political contexts. Much of the innovation can be improvisation of local resources as well adaptation of technologies, equipment and ideas imported and copied from other places. People at the local level see their innovations limited by local circumstances. Their ideas may solve problems in the immediate place, and for a relatively short period of time, but they could well have potential in many more places. Researchers, scientists and local innovators can see the potential for their work expanded greatly if they are supported appropriately. We hope that this conference will initiate new conversations about - knowledge, technology, creativity, innovation and sustainable development dividend build upon the many that have taken place around the world already and produce a substantive set of recommendations on how to create synergy out of innovation in developing countries.
