Course Description
This 1.5-day course is designed to familiarize technical professionals with the design and operation of gas compression equipment, with a majority of the seminar focusing on reciprocating units used in typical field compression applications. The second day deals with advanced operation, performance monitoring, optimization, and troubleshooting.
*Hands-on computer simulation of the equipment will be included as part of this course. Participants should bring a laptop to the course to load simulation software. Group studies will include the optimization of key equipment using supplied software.*
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for personnel involved in the design and operation of compression equipment.
This course will be of particular interest to Operating Engineers; Technicians and Senior Plant Operators.
Course Outline
Compressor Selection – choosing between recips; screws and centrifugals.
Basic Compression Theory – using charts and formulae to assess compression requirements.
Horsepower and Temperature Rise – predicting the power required and expected temperature rise and assessing valve leakage by temperature rise.
Compressor Components – mechanical running gear and how to avoid mechanical problems
Valve and Rod Load Monitoring – calculating rod loads; rod reversal and valve blowby.
Cooling Systems – designing and trouble-shooting coolers and maximizing compressor efficiency through optimized cooler operation.
Capacity Control and Optimization – the six ways of controlling compressor capacity and which to use when.
Drivers – a brief review of gas engines; turbines and electric motors
Noise Control – the three main culprits relating to environmental noise control
Packaging and Ancillaries – what you want on your compressor skid for ease of operation and start-up.
