This event looks at the growing market for chemicals and materials such as plastics made from renewable materials such as plant products. The conference includes presentations by the companies developing new types of chemicals that compete with petrochemicals.

Also called “bio-based” chemicals, the industry continues to grow. Most of the advanced biofuels companies are now either moving entirely to chemicals, or focusing on chemicals for the time being. This is being driven mainly by the market and not by government incentives. However in the past year the federal government has been proposing incentives for renewable chemicals through DOE, USDA, and probably others.

Some of the main areas to be covered:
• Sugar as a feedstock – both sugar cane, sugar cane products, other crops, and synthetic sugars from cellulose
• Economics of production and competition with natural gas as a feedstock
• Perspectives from consumer products companies (end users)
• Investment and acquisitions by petrochemical and petroleum companies
• Long term outlook – limits to growth?
