BIOME and SEDTEC are to be organized in the island annually. However, after 2012 SEDTEC will be held
every 2 years, i.e. at an interval that allows more scientific innovation. BIOME as a national conference
is not aiming at massive attendance but at sessions covering different subtopics on biodiversity, climate
change and sustainable development. The topics on Political Ecology, Innovations, Social
Representations and Nature Conservation will still form as solid themes together with Water and
Biodiversity for BIOME3 and SEDTEC2.
The joint activity for BIOME3-SEDTEC2 NCWB aims to initiate a culture and tradition of providing a
venue for researchers, teachers and practitioners to present their studies, innovations/inventions and
experiences; to share their knowledge and exchange ideas; and to collaborate on projects to further
strengthen the fields of biodiversity, climate change, science education, educational technology and
sustainable development.
BIOME3-SEDTEC2 topics: Water, biodiversity and ecosystems; Water, climate and renewable energy;
Water science and engineering perspectives; Water and wastewater technologies; Water education and
learning (research and teaching in marine biology, fisheries, aquaculture and freshwater sciences; and
maritime education and ocean sciences); Water sanitation and health (WASH); Water resource policy
and governance; Water on religions and beliefs; biodiversity and environmental flows in REWs; and
Managing Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
BIOME/SEDTEC usually consists of a series of paper presentations and accompanied by the special
Consultative Meeting (CONMEET) aiming at identifying gaps on biodiversity research and biodiversity
conservation through fieldwork, analyses, development and implementation of island biodiversity
conservation and climate change adaptation and mitigation programs/projects for the local government
units (LGUs), NGOs, POs and academic institutions. However, during BIOME3-SEDTEC2 there will be
significant changes and will have greatly simplified presentations patterned from IUCN congress format.
Participating and non-participating attendees can choose from the following presentations during the conference:
