Map India 2002 is 5th annual international conference and exhibition in the field of Geographic Information Sciences like GIS, GPS, Aerial Photography and Remote Sensing. Although it primarily serves to Indian geographic community but, over a period it has attracted quite a lot of international participation and provides a platform for collaboration between India and rest of the world.

India is emerging as a very important player in the field of Geographic Information Sciences. It has a sound history of surveying and map making. With the advancement in mapping technology, particularly in view of information technology being used as a major tool for map creation, updation, analysis and dissemination, India has emerged as a major center for mapping technology and solutions. It not only imports advanced software and expertise but also exports highly customised solutions and services. In view of availability of skilled manpower in the Asia-Pacific region at competitive prices, India serves the major data generating agencies and software development companies worldwide.

Map India attempts to bring all concerned with the technology and facilitate interaction, discussion, and collaboration amongst the participants. It provides a platform to share the latest developments in the field and also promote the products and services to a large gathering of about 1000 people. The profile of the participants include top decision makers from government and private sectors, existing as well as prospective users, academicians, vendors, policy makers and representatives of various international organizations working for promoting the cause of this technology.
